Your First Specialist Visit: What to Expect
Seeing a specialist for the first time can feel daunting. What happens during the appointment, how long it takes, and how to get the most out of it.

Your first specialist visit
Whether you are seeing a cardiologist, a dermatologist or an orthopedic surgeon, the first appointment follows a similar shape. Knowing what to expect makes it easier to relax and ask the right questions.
Check-in
Arrive ten minutes early. Our front desk confirms your details and insurance, and a nurse may take your blood pressure, weight and a short history before you see the doctor.
The consultation
Your specialist will ask what brought you in, review any previous results, and examine you if needed. Most first consultations take between 20 and 40 minutes.
Tests and next steps
If tests are needed, many can be done on site the same day, including blood work, ECG and imaging. Your doctor will explain what each test is for and when results will be ready.
Before you leave
You will receive a written summary, any prescriptions, and a follow-up date if one is needed. Prescriptions can be filled at our pharmacy on the ground floor.
How to prepare
Bring a photo ID, your insurance card, a list of current medication, and any recent reports. Writing down your questions beforehand helps you remember everything.
